The art world is experiencing a shift, perhaps one of the greatest of its time. Thanks to the advent of NFTs.
Although digital art has been around for decades, the art world has never focused on a digital-first approach. Galleries and museums still dedicate time and resources to physical spaces. Where the art, or representations, can be visited and seen by art lovers and investors.
With the advent of NFT art, the tide seems to be slowly turning as a new space for showcasing art becomes popular, the virtual NFT gallery. NFTs are seen as more of a commodity than a work of art. While everyone has seen pictures of monkeys in various outfits and poses, many artistic NFT pieces are being created for people to buy.
Therefore, many online platforms have moved to try and create the atmosphere of a traditional gallery in a digital environment. Often with an innovative twist.
NFT marketplaces
After all, NFT marketplaces are a far more inclusive environment for newcomers than the art establishment. There are plenty of platforms where artists can connect with buyers directly. This has enabled NFT artists to survive outside of the gallery structure.
Many NFT art collectors have taken their assets into blockchain-based virtual worlds like Decentraland and Cryptovoxels. Those platforms make it possible to build NFT galleries online. The NFT Art Marketplaces also have an NFT gallery presence within the Metaverse.
Even famed art house Sotheby’s has created a digital replica of its London galleries in Decentraland. An auctioneer in a top hat greets visitors at the door. They place the pieces in black frames, mimicking their real-world counterparts instead of putting them on walls, as in many virtual exhibits.
It is vital to remember virtual NFT galleries not only offer a new way to enjoy and invest in art. But blockchain technology also plays an essential part in the overall ecosystem, allowing the hard work of community members to be recognized and compensated accordingly.
NFT gallery partnership
This month we are taking the online gallery experience even further with our NFT gallery partnership with Maltese artist Mark Mallia.
The partnership sees us working with Mallia and a select group of artists handpicked by himself. But what makes this experience so different?
There will be two galleries—a standard viewing room with 40 affordable artworks and a premium deluxe room with 21 specially selected pieces.
Second, anyone visiting the gallery can use our cutting-edge technology to see a piece in total 3D/AR and your own space, whether it’s your home, a public space, or a private gallery. It will be represented proportionally on any handheld device with no extra software or apps needed.
But why would you want to do that? Because the final innovative twist is that everyone who purchases an NFT piece will receive the physical artwork and the 1: 1 scale NFT model, bringing the art into the real world alongside the digital one.
Blockchain is one of the most critical features of NFTs in general. It has enabled creatives to achieve a more significant portion of profits and democratizes the landscape, something we intend to do with our own NFT marketplace and projects like this.
